New Orleans is one of the more walkable US cities for tourists - the French Quarter, Garden District, Marigny, and Bywater are all manageable on foot or streetcar. For a stay confined to these neighbourhoods, you can easily skip the car. But Louisiana has extraordinary things to see beyond city limits: the Atchafalaya Basin swamps, plantation homes along River Road, Cajun country around Lafayette, and the Gulf Coast beaches - all of which need wheels. Even within the city, the lakefront, City Park, and the Tremé are more comfortable by car.

Airport Pickup (Louis Armstrong International, MSY)

The new Louis Armstrong terminal (opened 2019) has an on-site consolidated rental facility directly connected to the arrivals level.
